American Christian Conversion Therapy: From Roots to Fruits

History of Christianity II (~1500 – Present day)

In History of Christianity I, the final paper I had written about papal celibacy up until around 1500 CE. I had selected a handful of Popes and their stories regarding relationships to highlight as they did not follow what might be traditional expectations. It was a final paper-esk paper; interesting enough topic, enough resources for it to fly, probably worth around 15 pages.

In History of Christianity II however, the final paper I chose could have been hundreds of pages. In some cases and with some folks writing on the subject, the content essentially is hundreds of pages; legal cases and briefs, YouTube testimonials, personal blogs spanning years. Instead, the paper I wrote was about 15 pages long.

Tracking the history of American Christian involvement in the larger psychological practice of conversion therapy, this essay is admittedly too short. Nonetheless, for the space I had at the time, I feel content with it as an introduction to understanding the roots of conversion therapy in the United States before delving into understanding the significant (and rotten) fruits as a result of the practice.

Sorry, just Ari.
